Marquetry using the Egyptian Eye of Horus as a reference, with a little bit of Deco thrown in for good measure. This piece is made up of 18 different species of wood and over 1600 individually cut pieces. The whole thing tells a visual story of the ongoing war between Horus and Seth, but it is admittedly a bit cryptic. ;)

I can certainly see that. A lot of my veneer work is influenced by cubists and their processors. I have to say though, I think I am moving in more of a deco theme now-a-days. Thanks!

Hey, thanks! Took me months to complete this, but it was such a wonderfully cathartic experience. This is the piece that made me fall in love with wood. Most of the veneer I used I found in furniture finisher's trash heap. That ended up turning into an obsession and active searching for exotic and interesting stuff. Funny the random events that transform your artistic life, eh? Now I find myself in the woods with saws looking for burls and processing my own stuff! :)

That's incredible that you used recycled materials! Even more impressive.

And they were pretty damn awesome recycled materials at that! I just cant believe someone would get rid of that much veneer, and high quality stuff! I still have several 6 foot sheets of bubinga wood in my stash from that project. This was certainly a case of being in the right place at the right time.
