Description

Stockholm Syndrome (Go! What the fuck is wrong with you?!)

$400.00 USD

Green-cheek Conure parrot and juvenile Starling specimens with broken cage.

Basically this piece is an expression of a wild bird confounded by a captive birds lack of motivation to fly the fuck away after great effort was spent to break the bondage. Of course the metaphor runs deep and is pretty rich with possibilities, so I won’t belabor the point!

I thought that making this look like an old woman’s Parrot would lend a bit of charm to it which is the reason for the fake flowers, 1940’s color lace, and the player piano background. I then realized that the fact I have all of this stuff makes me a bit more of an old lady than I previously realized. I also quite like the diagonal piano strings in the back. Seems to help the image in general. Hope you all like it!

Yet another great work of art my friend. I see so much originality and symbolism in this piece. Not only that, but the taxidermy is (as always) fantastic.
My only negative is that the diagonals of the piano string against the horizontal of the cage make it a bit busy/confusing for me. I suggest maybe putting it on the piano bench with the keys showing behind. The horizontal+horizontal may make it less confusing.
All in all, though, I love this. It is among my favorites of your work now.
You do some fantastic work with taxidermy. I don't see the least bit of damage or plumage loss on these two, and if you don't mind, I'd like to see some different angles on this to check the rest of it out!!!
The lace work compliments the flowers nicely, seeing as it's a nice forest green color. It also ties the cage in with the colors of the parrot, and really unifies it for me! The brass of the piano with the brassy color of the cage makes it flow nicely, too, and I think it compensates for the busyness, because it makes your eye flow back to the cage.
The symbolism is remarkable. It symbolizes unification between the birds as a species, and how a free life is better than the opposite. How comrades should stick together, and how an easy, pampered life can destroy one's natural way of thinking.
All in all, this has good flow to it, although a bit busy, it is very unified, and it has powerful symbolism. Good work my friend, and keep it up!
